News: International Workshop ADVANCES AND INNOVATIONS IN SOFCs (September 13-17, 2008 Katarino, Bulgaria)

The International Workshop Advances and Innovations in SOFC was organized within the framework of the 7 FP project “Innovative Dual Membrane Fuel Cell” (IDEAL-Cell), which aims at developing an innovative design of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) working with higher efficiency at lower (700-600oC) temperatures. The new concept combines the advantages, and eliminates the disadvantages of both oxygen conducting and proton conducting SOFC, ensuring the production of the water in a third separate compartment.

The Workshop was organized as to provide the participants with enhanced opportunities for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and achievements. In addition to the oral and poster presentations, a series of multidisciplinary educational lectures (training courses) and discussion sessions took place. Some of the educational lectures are currently available for download.

Particular attention was given to the active participation of junior scientists for whom a special oral presentation session was organized. Awards were be given for most enthusiastic involvement (most questions asked, most interesting question asked, etc.) and best poster and oral presentations.

Although organized for the exchange of knowledge and achievements related to the implementation of the project IDEAL-Cell, the Workshop “ADVANCES AND INNOVATIONS IN SOFC” was open for both senior and junior researchers working in the field of SOFC.

The Workshop was followed by two parallel Satellite Meetings:

• Second Consortium Meeting of the project DEAL-Cell;
• “Materials for Alternative Energy Systems” organized by the project “Alternative Energy Systems” (ALENES) of Operational Program “Development of Human Resources”
